How To Make A Dog Bed
By Jerry Brecken
Admit it! Buying manufactured dog beds these days may cost you a fortune no matter how fancy or eye-catching these products are.
The nice thing about it is that you just have to take your credit card, ATM card, or your hard-earned cash with you, then off you go to the nearest specialty shops that offer all sorts of dog beds. Also, you may just browse the Internet for websites that offer these products and have one delivered right at the comfort of your home. Very convenient, isn't it?
However, the downside is having a bed that is either too expensive or too awkward for your canine companion that you'll wish you never purchased one in the first place.
But still, you can actually arrive at a win-win solution here! If buying a dog bed is way out of your budget, then why not try making one instead? Read on the simple steps below on how to make a dog bed for your pet:
1. Have all the materials ready.
Of course, before you start making a dog bed for your pet, you have to buy all the necessary materials first. For this simple project, you have to purchase the following:
* Commercial grade foam. See to it that the foam is durable and comfortable enough for your dog.
* Fabric. Just like the foam, it should be a high-grade one, so you and your furry friend will be assured of its long-term use.
* Heavy-duty thread. It is best to choose an upholstery thread because of its sturdier quality. Remember to go for the thread color that will best complement that of the fabric. As such, never allow a visual nightmare by using a red thread on a violet fabric.
* Sewing machine. A sewing machine is important for the heavy-duty sewing that you will perform.
2. Choose a nice dog bed pattern.
After having the needed materials ready, pick a pattern that will suit your dog perfectly. You can choose from a variety of patterns, shapes, colors, and sizes: printed, striped, checkered, square, round, rectangle, dark, light, neutral, pastel, large, medium, and small.
The key here is to choose a dog bed pattern that complements your dog's personality as well as the surrounding. There are sewing and crocheting patterns available on the Internet that can help you carry out your project in a breeze. You may also opt to apply a little of your artistic creativity into the project by making your own design.
In addition, it will be a good idea if you'll solicit design ideas from your family members and friends. You may also opt to personalize your dog's bed by having its name embroidered or stitched into it.
3. Start creating your dog bed.
Of course, after preparing the materials and choosing a suitable pattern, it's time for you to begin your dog bed project. You may get family members involved in the project, particularly the kids, by asking them to perform simple tasks like handing in the stuffing materials for the dog bed. With family members and friends to help along, your dog bed project will surely be an enjoyable, fun, and meaningful activity.
What kind of dog bed is good for a yellow lab who gets stinky?
He has one of those flannel patterned dog beds in his crate made out of fluffy fleece and it stinks a week after bathing him. He stays in the house all day and just sits in his bed and makes it stinky. He loves his dog bed but the smell is too much…what material other than garbage bags wont hold the smell as much?
Labs are the SMELLIEST! I have one too. Try to find one that the filling can be removed so that you can wash the lining as needed. We found one at Cabela’s (www.cabelas.com). Just buy some cotton filling at a craft store so that you can refill it with fresh cotton after you wash it.
dog bed?????
i have had my dog for about 4 months now and he is now 6months…
at first we would let him sleep with us , thn we got a bed about 2/3months ago for him and he was fine and loved sleeping in it…
but for the last 3/4 nights he has been sneeking up and sleeping with us in our bed??? y could this be???
i have been sick with the flu/cold, could this b y???
also if i put him back on his bed he will get on my bed after about a min or so??
whts the prob??
i have enforcing boundaries!!! and he always sleeps on his bed…
whn i go 2 bed i always bring him with me and place him on my bed and he always goes down on his bed and and only gets on my bed in the morning 2 wake me up 2 go toilet
and never any other time..
he knows its his bed and he loves his own space
This will probably sound stupid but it may be because you are sick. I had a cat that inevitably knew everytime I was sick. He would try to wrap himself around my neck while I was sleeping. I think that pets just know when something is wrong with you.
How can I make my dog not tear up her bed?
My dog sleeps in her kennel at night. I buy dog beds for her to sleep on and everytime I do that she tears it up in there. I wake up only to find her bed in shreds inside her kennel. But when she sleeps in there for a nap during the day nothing happens. It’s cold now and she still chews up her bed and I feel so bad because she’s probably cold, but not matter how many beds I get her the same thing happens. What can I do so that she doesn’t chew up her bed when she sleeps at night?
Well, let me see. Maybe just give her a blanket of some sort that she doesn’t have to tear up. All dogs usually scratch and dig to make a place to sleep. So, don’t buy another bed, Put blankets in or even soft large towels that are easily washed when they get dirty. I use any old blankets or rugs or towels for my dog. He likes to scratch. But then he sleeps with me at night so he has it made. He still scratches before he lays down. It could be that she is bored from the long night and does this because she has nothing to keep her busy. Give her a rawhide chew at night to keep her busy. Good luck.
How do you train a dog to get off the bed?
We have a 60 lb Lab that loves to sleep on our bed. Of course she takes up half of it! How can we get her to stay on the floor and sleep? We tried a dog bed with a treat reward, but she always ends back up into the bed! Plus she eventually chewed up the dog bed!!!!
Is this something new that you’ve just decided to do? Keep the dog off the bed? If in the past she’s been allowed to sleep with you, then she will always feel like she belongs on the bed. It’s hard to train pets. Use the command “Off” instead of “No” whenever she jumps on the bed. Obviously rewards didn’t help the first time, but keep it up, she’ll get the hang of it. It’ll take time tho. Good Luck!
Dog Bed??!!?
I have a little puppy that sleeps with me every night. He has his own bed but loves to sleep on my bed. Does anyone have any ideas of how i can make his bed more comfy?! also im really bored and need something to do

put his bed next to your’s and when you go to sleep put your hand down so your dog can lick it to get use to sleeping next to you not with you.
