Dog Names: Female Dog Names To Fit The Dog And The Owner

Author: Ryan Moxie

When picking out dog names for your new female doggie, make sure the name is reflective of the owner's personality as well as that of the dogs. Try not to figure out what your dog's personality will be like when it grows up though because you may be surprised to find out that the name that took you so much time and effort to choose is all wrong. It is, however, perfectly appropriate to name a dog based on it's personality as a puppy. Some fun female dog names that will grow with your puppy could be Cuddles, Sparkles, Droopy, or Peanut.

Female dog names seem to have a lot of "sh" and "ch" sounds and end in "les" or "y". Sasha, Cherry, Muddles, and Lucy, for example. Female dog names can be swiped from the top 10 lists of popular names, like Lady, Maggie, Sadie or Ginger. You could prefer a more unique female dog name such as Azaria, which means female warrior, or Toohey, a brand of Australian beer, or Isolde, which is Celtic for beautiful and also the name of the heroin from a centuries old Celtic love story.

Cartoons and movies are a great source for female dog names. Ariel, Jasmine and Belle are popular names from well known Disney films. From classic cartoons you could borrow Pebbles, Zippy or Babe (especially fun if your puppy loves to eat).

Does your new puppy already rule the house? If so, some appropriate female dog names might be Queen, Duchess, Princess, or Czarina. Or, you could always borrow a name from real royalty such as Diana, Elizabeth, Fergie or Leia or Padma (from Star Wars, of course).

Dog names for large female watchdogs could be named after strong Greek Goddesses, such as Aphrodite, Helena, Dione, Minerva, Athena, or you could just go with Goddess. Mystical types of female dog names also work well for large watchdog types, like Pegasus, Magick, Pandora, or Ouija.

Cute female dog names are always fun. Chiquita, Bootsie, Grumpy, Buffy, Sweet Pea, or Groovy can emulate a puppy's personality, looks or breed. Some nice color names for female dogs are Crimson, Amber, Citrine, Alabaster, Noire, or Cali (short for Calico for a multi-colored pup.)

Still haven't decided on any great female dog names? Take a look around you and be creative. As I sit in my office and look around I see a picture of a dragon on the wall - Nessie, and a vase of flowers - Daisy, and a feather duster - Dusty. In the garage I have a Scooter, but wish it was a Harley (works for a girl or boy dog). In the kitchen I might find a Donut, some Coffee, or (you know I have to) a Hot Dog. You get the point. Female dog names are all around you if you know how to find them.

It doesn't matter how you choose female dog names, as long as they are names that you will be proud to call your dog for years to come.

how to tell the difference between a white pomeranian and american eskimo dog?
i recently bought a white pomeranian it looks alot like some white pomeranians i have seen but it also looks and has alot of the characteristics of the toy american eskimo dogs, does anyone know how to tell the difference?

thats a hard one! a pomeranian that is “standard”, that is, one that would do well in the show ring should not look anything at all like an american eskimo dog. The Pom would be MUCH smaller, and the tail has a very dramatic set, curled up and over the back. This curl is much more severe than you see in some other spitz breeds. However, pet quality poms from byb breeders and mills are generally alot bigger and have a much wider range of features. Without having registration papers and personal knowledge that the parents listed are correct, it would be next to impossible to tell a poorly bred Pom from a pet-quality Eskie. You probably have a Pom, if thats what the papers say. If the dog was found or is paperless though, its possible you have an eskie or even some other sort of mixed breed :) So long as you love her, thats whats important ;) -Neb
